First floating toilet commenced in Bolinao

BOLINAO – Philippines first floating sanitary toilet was installed at fishpen area at Barangay Luciente I here

The floating sanitary toilet (FST) is an invention of the engineers of the Center for Health Development (CHD) of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 1.

The floating sanitary toilet is now being tested as to its usefulness and practicability.

Barangay Luciente I was chosen as the pilot area here in Bolinao, Pangasinan where it was reported that diarrhea outbreak occur last year because of the high level of bacteria found in the waters here.

Last Thursday the first floating sanitary toilet was launched and turned over to the local government unit lead by Mayor Alfonso Celeste by the CHD-DOH-Region 1.

Bolinao town has an enormous fish-cages and fish-pens. Some fish-pen caretakers stay at the especially made hut as their temporary house while guarding the fish-pen.

Region 1 Director Eduardo Janairo of the CHD-DOH-Region 1 told the Pangasinan Today that the floating sanitary toilet is a low cost pour plush sanitation facility that floats in the water.

The structure of the floating sanitary toilet and its waste treatment material are made of used plastic drums, bamboo, sea corals, garden soil and charcoal.
