STO TOMAS - Staging the record holder and still undefeated in the Guiness Book of World Records in the longest corn grill this town commemorates its title in setting simultaneous corn grilling on a 101 grill pads.

The event serves as a highlight of the town’s 101st founding anniversary.

“This Year the Local government and the people of this town would just like  to keep the torch of unity lighted and do the celebration in a moderate manner in keeping possible resources in a meaningful spending and would sure benefit the people specially in the corn industry”. thus said Vice Mayor Timoteo Dick Villar III.

He said the municipal government has prepared for the event to be participated by 10 barangays.

Adding that each barangay will set up 10 grills each and the municipal government will also have one grill.

This year the local government has included special trainings to secondary students and individuals in the corn farming industry to improve their knowledge and technical inputs in corn production.

The exactly the same time the town achieved the world record last year, the residents will reminisce the feat with the simultaneous grilling of glutinous white corn.

Last year, 93,540 glutinous corn ears were grilled simultaneously on 1,559-meter-long grills, inter-connected to each other.

But today, the people will grill only 7,000 corn ears on the grill pads they used last year as these are still useful.

The grills will be set up on the road in Poblacion in front of the municipal hall.

To prepare for this event, Villar said they did a dry-run last Jan. 26. "We are used to doing things right so the people can truly enjoy them," the vice mayor said.
